Surfmeter – Active QoE measurements for vehicle connectivity
About
In today's connected vehicles, a seamless "gate-to-gate" or "track-to-terminal" internet experience is no longer a luxury—it's a core passenger expectation. A slow website or a buffering video stream directly impacts customer satisfaction, brand perception, and the success of onboard ancillary services.
Stop guessing. Start measuring what your passengers actually experience.
AVEQ's "Surfmeter" is a specialized service that measures the true Quality of Experience (QoE) for internet services on your fleet. We move beyond simple speed tests to provide an objective, actionable understanding of your onboard connectivity performance.
How It Works:
Our lightweight Surfmeter Mobile Quality & Player SDKs integrate directly into your existing passenger applications (Android, iOS) or web-based entertainment portals.
From there, our service continuously and passively (Player SDK) or actively (Quality SDK) measures the real-world performance of:
-
Streaming Video: Objectively score the perceived quality of services like Netflix and YouTube, as well as live and VoD (HLS/DASH) content. We detect every stall, buffer event, and resolution drop.
-
Web Browsing: Measure critical page load times and web performance metrics for a fast, responsive browsing experience.
-
Network Performance: Capture underlying diagnostics like latency, DNS, and packet loss.
The Business Value for Mobility Operators:
All measurement data is collected on our central Surfmeter Server, providing you with a unified dashboard (Grafana/Kibana) to:
-
Verify SLA Compliance: Hold your satellite or mobile connectivity providers accountable with objective, third-party data.
-
Proactively Troubleshoot: Identify connectivity blackspots along routes and diagnose issues before they lead to passenger complaints.
-
Enhance Passenger Satisfaction: Ensure your connectivity investment translates into a demonstrably better passenger experience.
-
Optimize Bandwidth: Understand true usage patterns to manage and allocate bandwidth effectively.
