Traffic infrastructure - inland waterways

By utilising the knowledge of our experts in infrastructure management, shipping and logistics, along with electronic information and navigational systems, flood control and environmental hydraulic engineering, we provide services for the public sector, businesses, holidaymakers and local residents along the Danube.

On behalf of the Austrian Ministry of Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure (bmimi), viadonau provides the technical secretariat for the Austrian Action Programme for the Danube as well as the European Danube Region Strategy (Priority Area 1a Inland waterways). In that function, viadonau coordinated the development of the Fairway Rehabilitation and Maintenance Master Plan for the Danube and its navigable tributaries which was adopted by the Danube Transport Ministers in 2014 and reconfirmed in 2016 and 2018. Viadonau was also the coordinator of the flagship project FAIRway Danube, a successful transnational initiative to improve the quality of waterway management, rehabilitation and maintenance along the Danube in cooperation with the Danube riparian states, based on implementing the Fairway Master Plan described above. Currently viadonau coordinates its successor FAIRway Danube II.
