Latvijas Dzelzceļš (English: Latvian Railways, abbr. LDz) is a state-owned company responsible for managing Latvia’s public railway infrastructure. It is fully owned by the Latvian government, with 100% of its shares held by the state through the Ministry of Transport, which serves as its sole shareholder. The company was founded on 2 September 1991 and is regarded as the successor to Latvian State Railways (Latvijas valsts dzelzceļi), which was originally established on 5 August 1919 and ceased operations following the Soviet occupation of Latvia in 1940.
